History Hour with the Sullivan-Sorrento Historical Society
Stories of the Sea: Sullivan Ships and Shipmasters

Join us to view a selection of vignettes of Sullivan and Sorrento's maritime past: Captain John Simpson and the Rachel’s fateful wreck, prominent Boston shipbroker John S. Emery’s origins in Sullivan, a little tugboat named the Phillips Eaton that guided vessels through the falls, and many more.
Alan Gray studies maritime history with particular interest in the Frenchman’s Bay region and the towns of Hancock and Sullivan. Alan has ancestors who operated ships and ran quarries in the area. He is a board member of the Hancock Historical Society, and has volunteered at the Penobscot Marine Museum for over ten years.
